Study of access to water

for Bolia

VOCATION DE L’ASSOCIATON

Bolia is a registered nonprofit humanitarian association. It was created in 2010 by volunteers driven by the need to set up an assistance and development plan for a large village in Ivory Coast, Bolia, to support its development and promote educational, cultural and environmental projects.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Water supply: the only source of water the village has ever had is a watering hole located 1.5 km from Bolia. Hydrological and bacteriological quality analyses carried out in June 2014 indicated that the water is contaminated by faeces and has a very high iron content.

If possible, in addition, sanitation should be studied, as there is no sewerage network. The village is located on a hillock, with the watering hole at its foot. Yet the only sanitation in the villages consists of basic septic tanks dug into the ground that are more like pit latrines, meaning that runoff water contaminates the superficial aquifer. Since the watering point is a resurgence from this aquifer, the health conditions are catastrophic.
