Action COVID-19

In partnership with the various units of the Department of Isère, the organization Magdalena 38 set in place a COVID-19 meal distribution response for people in extreme poverty.

Artelia Foundation's Emergency Fund helped finance the preparation and distribution of full, hot meals to 150 people, twice a day (a total of 300 meals per day), from Monday to Sunday, at lunchtime and dinner. The Community Social Action Services of Grenoble, the community kitchen and the local food bank all provided food and ingredients. Sacré Coeur Basilica in Grenoble and the restaurant "La Salle à Manger" lent their facilities for the meal prep, heating and packaging and for meal distribution.

The organization Magdalena 38 works to reach Grenoble''s most destitute people through its programs "les mercredis du coeur" ("Wednesdays from the heart") and "les tournées du coeur" ("visits from the heart"). Inspired by their investment in these projects, the organization has also developed of a network of foster families and "colocations du cœur" ("housemates from the heart").

  • Wednesdays from the Heart: Every Wednesday evening, from 7:00-10:00 pm, Magdalena volunteers organize a free communicty dinner
  • Visits from the Heart : Three times a week, the organization drives its camper van through the streets of Grenoble to reach out to prostitutes
  • Foster families: In September 2018,  fifteen families engaged in welcoming young women who, above all else, wish to get out of prostitution. Each woman is hosted by 4-5 families over a period of 6 months, and by the end of these 6 months they have the opportunity to find employement at the Solenciel association.
  • Housemates from the Heart: To date, the organization owns and operates two Magdalena houses in Grenoble. Housemates are all employees of Solenciel, and they are encouraged to live out their new life together in a shared community. Volunteers and former host families also participate in regular community meals.
