Extension of the water network in Timbi Madina, Guinea

Improving sustainable access to safe drinking water for a population still largely deprived of this fundamental right. The project aims to build a pumping station, install a reservoir, rehabilitate an existing network that is over 20 years old, and carry out a comprehensive assessment of water resources and sanitation.

In this region, where only 17% of the population currently has access to water through an aging network, this initiative represents a major step forward toward equitable, reliable, and sustainable access to water for all.

Two volunteers traveled to Timbi Madina to support the local association in conducting a comprehensive assessment of access to drinking water and sanitation. They contributed to identifying viable and sustainable solutions, and helped structure the project to effectively address the municipality’s needs in terms of water access, hygiene, and sanitation.

I enthusiastically took part in a mission to Timbi Madina, in the heart of Fouta Djalon, Guinea—an emblematic region of West Africa. Despite its nickname as the “water tower,” the challenges related to access to safe drinking water are numerous. On site, we were warmly welcomed by the municipality and supported by a dedicated local team managing the water system.
