Acting to preserve biodiversity and the climate
Submission deadline: March 8, 2024
Since its creation in 2006, the Artelia Foundation has worked to promote solidarity and environmental protection throughout the world. It is characterized by the specificity of the commitment of employees and retirees of the Artelia group who contribute with their knowledge and professional skills to the success of non-profit projects. The Artelia Foundation primarily supports actors who are acting for a just transition that leaves no one behind.
General context
In 2021, the UN’s scientific expert groups on the climate (IPCC) and biodiversity (IPBES) issued a joint report attesting to the importance of protecting biodiversity in the fight against climate change, particularly using nature-based solutions (NBS), and called for the adoption of integrated management of climate change and biodiversity loss. Climate stability and human well-being depend on the good health of ecosystems. These ecosystems provide many essential services for good living conditions (pollination, quality of water, soil, air, etc.).
In this context, and convinced of the key role of actors supporting the common good in facing these challenges, the Artelia Foundation is launching the call for projects “Acting to preserve biodiversity and the climate”.
Presentation of the call for projects
The call for projects aims to support projects with a goal of protecting nature and living things in connection with the fight against climate change:
• Preserving ecosystems in good ecological condition;
• Creating and restoring degraded or threatened ecosystems;
• Improving the resilience capacities of ecosystems;
• Improving ecosystem management for sustainable use by human activities;
These projects can include observation, research and awareness-raising actions if they accompany tangible and measurable actions to promote biodiversity and the climate.
Financial support
The call for projects has a total budget of 80,000 euros. The selected projects will be allocated an amount defined by the Artelia Foundation according to the needs and the scale of each project as well as the number of projects financed.
Human support
In addition to this financial contribution, support will be provided by Artelia employees, in the form of skills-based philanthropy or solidarity leave. This support will be defined with project leaders in order to best meet their need for expertise.
It may concern the activities of the project itself (ecology, landscape, etc.) or address additional needs of the project in the fields of engineering such as water, environment, building, civil engineering, infrastructure, or energy.
Particular attention will be paid to:
• The justification and contextualization of the project (what societal challenges does the project address?)
• Integrating the link between biodiversity and climate in the responses provided
• The ecological indicators put in place to evaluate the benefits of actions
• The means implemented to ensure the sustainability of the project (financing, governance, etc.)
• Taking socio-economic issues, particularly social vulnerabilities into account
• Having strong regional roots, and sharing lessons learned from the project
The Artelia Foundation thus intends to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations, and more specifically:
