Aid to the victims of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte
On December 14, 2024, Cyclone Chido devastated Mayotte, leaving thousands of homes destroyed and creating a dire humanitarian situation.
The Artelia Foundation mobilized its emergency fund to support Apprentis d’Auteuil Mayotte and Solidarités International following Cyclone Chido.
Apprentis d’Auteuil Mayotte focused its efforts on supporting children and young people to facilitate their return to school and protect the most vulnerable. The program included the distribution of food vouchers, school kits, shoes, and hygiene products, as well as training teams in psychological first aid and education in emergency contexts. At the same time, building safety works were undertaken to gradually reopen facilities.
Meanwhile, Solidarités International provided emergency assistance with a focus on water access, hygiene, and health prevention. The NGO rehabilitated secondary networks and community infrastructure, distributed water purification solutions, and implemented secure water storage and chlorination systems. It also provided family hygiene kits in areas not covered by other actors and organized hygiene and disease prevention awareness campaigns.
