Developing and organising waste sorting
The project aims to formalise cooperatives of women who collect household waste from solid waste collection points in and around Porto-Novo. Previously, these women worked in unworthy conditions in the informal sector, before losing their source of income following a government reform aimed at modernising the sector.
Support in developing and organising waste sorting and recovery in order to optimise recycling and improve working conditions and pay for the women's cooperative. This project will enable this team of women to become self-sufficient while contributing to the sustainable development of their region.
The core of our assignment was to support the women of the cooperative in charge of recovering recyclable materials, with a view to optimising the sorting of household waste. Following field visits, we were able to defend the cooperative's interests with the Société de Gestion des Déchets et de la Salubrité. A number of technical and organisational improvements were proposed for implementation at the waste collection points;
