Improving Burundian students’ French language skills

Supporting Burundian students in improving their command of French and developing their study plans, with a view to facilitating their access to higher education and academic mobility.

Our volunteers spent a week working with students at the University of Lake Tanganyika and Ngozi University in Bujumbura. They ran conversation workshops designed to improve the students’ speaking skills, encourage debate, and help them better prepare for their study plans in France.

Teaching around forty students is no small feat! Especially when it’s not our original profession… But what an incredible human experience! Their curiosity, genuine exchanges, and gratitude made this mission unforgettable. With these young people, we worked on employability – through CV creation and interview simulations – daily French practice, and discovering the realities of student life in France. Their words at the end of the mission touched me deeply: ‘You’re not teachers, but you knew how to teach!’ So of course… I only have one desire: to do it again!” – Samiha

It was a truly beautiful and rewarding human experience, blending harmony, kindness, and solidarity. – Virginie

I spent five days out of time, an unforgettable experience, exceptional humanity, and a flawless welcome. The desire to help and support young students showed me that we can share so much from our years of professional experience. The students’ testimonials and their thanks were truly sincere and moving. We formed a wonderful all-female team with Virginie and Samia: complicity, listening, laughter, sharing… Memories forever in my heart. – Béatrice
