Sustainable Housing Improvements in Phnom Penh's Informal Settlements
Improving the living conditions of families living in deprived neighbourhoods of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, through the renovation of substandard housing using materials with a low environmental impact and incorporating bioclimatic principles. The project aims to strengthen the resilience of homes to the effects of climate change whilst sustainably improving residents’ living conditions.
Artelia staff have put their expertise in architecture and building engineering at the service of the teams at Planète Enfants & Développement to identify more sustainable renovation solutions. Their support focused on bioclimatic practices, the selection of local and eco-friendly materials, the management of construction waste, and the integration of environmental and social considerations into refurbishment projects. This project helped to improve the quality and sustainability of the renovated homes, benefiting the most vulnerable families.
My first steps on the Asian continent alongside Planète, Enfants et Développement were a deeply memorable experience, both professionally and personally. Indeed, as part of this Franco-Khmer team, I was able to gain an understanding of the challenges facing the countries of South-East Asia, and more specifically Cambodia – a country with a rich and complex history that is currently undergoing rapid development.
