Taking action for the ocean: riding the wave of innovation and resilience
Application deadline : March 3, 2025
Since its creation in 2006, the Artelia Foundation has been working to promote solidarity and environmental protection worldwide. It is characterized by the specific commitment of Artelia Group employees, who contribute their knowledge and experience to the success of non-profit projects. The Artelia Foundation supports organizations working for a fair and inclusive ecological transition.
General context
The ocean, the planet’s blue lung, is essential for life on Earth. It produces half of the oxygen we breathe, absorbs much of the carbon dioxide emitted by humanity, regulates the global climate, and hosts exceptional biodiversity. Yet, it is facing unprecedented threats: plastic pollution, acidification, overfishing, and global warming are endangering its ecosystems and the human communities that depend on them.
The Artelia Foundation is joining the momentum driven by the international community and the United Nations Ocean Conferences. The next conference, to be held in Nice in June 2025, aims to be a true « Summit for Ocean Action ». Building on the achievements of previous editions, it will propose concrete solutions and transform the way we protect and sustainably use marine resources.
In this spirit, the Artelia Foundation is launching the call for projects « Acting for the Oceans: Riding the Wave of Innovation and Resilience » to support innovative and concrete initiatives for the preservation of the ocean. By prioritizing the fight against marine pollution, the restoration of ecosystems, and education on ocean preservation, this call aims to amplify collective efforts to address current challenges.
Through this commitment, the Artelia Foundation aims to help make the Nice Conference a catalyst for concrete and measurable actions toward a sustainable marine future.
Call for projects presentation
The call for projects aims to support initiatives designed to protect the oceans and preserve marine biodiversity, particularly in connection with combating marine pollution. These projects may include actions such as :
• Fighting marine pollution : beach and ocean cleanup initiatives, awareness campaigns, etc.
• Conserving marine biodiversity : projects to protect endangered species, restore coral reefs, preserve marine habitats, etc., as well as initiatives aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems.
• Enhancing the resilience of communities to oceanic and coastal risks.
• Educating and raising awareness : educational programs on ocean conservation, outreach to local communities and young generations.
These projects may include observation, research, and awareness-raising activities, provided they are accompanied by concrete and measurable actions in favor of ocean preservation.
Financial Support
The call for projects has a total budget of 100,000 euros. Selected projects will be allocated a specific amount determined by the Artelia Foundation, based on the needs and scale of each project, as well as the number of projects funded.
Human Support
In addition to the financial contribution, support will be provided by Artelia employees through skills-based philanthropy or solidarity leave. This support will be defined in collaboration with the project leaders to best meet their expertise needs.
Particular attention will be given to:
• The justification and contextualization of the project (what societal challenges does the project address?)
• The integration of the link between biodiversity and climate in the proposed solutions
• The ecological indicators put in place to assess the benefits of the actions
• The resources implemented to ensure the project's sustainability (funding, governance, etc.)
• The consideration of socio-economic issues, particularly social vulnerabilities
• The local anchoring and the sharing of the project's lessons learned
The Artelia Foundation aims to support the least funded SDG, SDG 14, which seeks to « conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development ».
