On the Trail of the Chameleon
On the Trail of the Chameleon’ is a rural development programme through which HSF is working to improve access to drinking water. It includes raising awareness of basic hygiene rules and setting up a structure management service.
Our two volunteers contributed their hydrogeology and hydrology expertise, and carried out an exploratory assignment with the programme partners to evaluate the existing water resources across the region. They recommended the developments to be carried out for each village.
We were among the 14 volunteers from all the organisations involved who set off to discover the cultural heritage and in particular the dances of ethnic groups such as the Bassari, Dailonké and Bedik, who live in the Kedougou region and manage to survive despite the scant water resources, the absence of electricity and the lack of access to healthcare. In particular, we identified the priority future investigations to be carried out at water points across the region, including repairs, drilling tests with a view to electrifying them with solar panels, and exploration of new resources.
